[Moldova] The fact that their church was still under construction didn’t prevent a small group of Seventh-day Adventists from attending a weekend series of evangelistic health meetings, "Steps to Healing." The local people responded to invitations and their presence continued to grow until the last evening when visitors outnumbered church members.
To reinforce the Adventist health message, the team of professionals from Podis Health Center arrived one evening to take blood pressure measurements as well as to perform tests for ECG, IMB, glycemia, and osteoporosis.
The evangelistic meetings, held in late February in a little town called Roznov in the Eastern European country of Moldova, began with a health seminar, then a warm spiritual message was presented which included the story of Jesus healing a blind man.
Introductions and appeals were emphasized with vocal and instrumental musical play. Guests asked many questions, told of their experiences, asked for prayer, and received books and different prizes.
“We realized how wonderful it is to live a life that offers the love message of our Savior,” recalls Alina Lupu, director of Women’s Ministries in Moldova, who organized and held the evangelistic meetings with the help of her family—husband, daughter, and son-in-law. “We enjoyed being together on those wonderful evenings,” she adds.
In Moldova, the Seventh-day Adventist Church is organized as the Moldavia Conference in the Romanian Union Conference. The variety of Romanian spoken in Moldova is the same as northeastern Romania. Since Moldova's independence, the Russian Cyrillic alphabet has been giving way to the Romanian alphabet (based on the Latin alphabet), and now the spoken and written Moldovan language is Romanian.
